Wendigo Race Report - 22/11/23
Everyone at Racing Club is delighted with Wendigo’s impressive victory on just his second start, where he ran out a comfortable winner at Hexham on Wednesday. It was a brilliant performance and we’re confident he’s only going to get better with each run!
Having been well supported in the market, he was sent off a short priced favourite for the four-runner race, and we couldn’t have asked for a more assured performance from him. He disputed the lead throughout the early stages, but once asked for his effort he pulled clear of his rivals, and stayed on strongly to the line to win by a cosy 4½ lengths. It’s also worth noting he was giving the runner-up a stone in weight, and the other two rivals weren’t in sight when he crossed the line!
Racing Club ambassador Jordan Wylie was understandably delighted with the performance, and the Racing Club team posed with Wendigo’s owners (RC Syndicate I) who were in attendance. With that win under his belt, he looks sure for a bright future ahead and we’re excited to see where he heads next!
Trainer Jamie Snowden is looking ahead to better races for our talented four-year-old now, and was full of praise after the race, saying:
“Wendigo is a nice horse, we like him a lot. It was a case of trying to win and get the job done and he’s won well. That was fairly bad ground and he’s only a four-year-old so we’ll be patient with him, I’d have thought we could look at a better race now”
Jockey Gavin Sheehan was equally complimentary of Wendigo’s performance, stating after the race:
“That was a brilliant performance from Wendigo, I got a great spin off him and everything went smoothly. We didn’t go a mad gallop, the ground was as bad as I’ve rode on, so it was just a matter of getting him around for the first mile and a bit, before getting the revs up going up the hill which started to wake him up and he picked up nicely. He got a bit lonely out in front when we had the race won over the last hurdle, but it was a nice performance and he did it well. He’s got an exciting future ahead.”
Wendigo has trotted up sound and well this morning and is going to be given an easy time of things over the next few days when he arrives home, where he’ll enjoy some lovely hacks, and we’ll be treating him to a few well-deserved extra carrots!
