We have an exhilarating week of racing to look forward to this week, with some fantastic action at Cheltenham on the weekend, as well as plenty of Racing Club runners set to race during the week!
MONDAY
We start the week with four meetings, with jumps action at Warwick and Plumpton, plus flat action on the all-weather at Kempton and Newcastle. The biggest eye-catcher has to be Tea Clipper, who has placed in all three starts this season in competitive handicaps, running in the Hunters’ Chase at Warwick (4.15pm).
Entries will also be announced for Saturday’s key action, including the superb action at Cheltenham on Saturday, which features a huge SIX Graded races.
TUESDAY
Racing returns to Newbury for the first time in 2024 with a good-looking jumps card, with further jumps action at Leicester and Down Royal, plus all-weather evening action at Southwell. The bumper on the Newbury card (4.20pm) looks a good race to keep an eye on, with the 2022 winner Lookaway following up two months later in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree.
We also see the latest entries for Cheltenham Festival, with entries announced for:
- Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
- Baring Bingham (formerly Ballymore) Novices’ Hurdle
- Triumph Hurdle
- Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
The 2023 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are also revealed, with Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Flightline winning the 2022 award.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday will be another big day for Racing Club, with Hexham bumper winner Wendigo back in action. He will be bidding to following up that win with a big performance in the ‘Racing Again 2nd February Open National Hunt Flat Race’ (4.10pm) at Catterick. Further jumps action comes from Chepstow and Fairyhouse, whilst the flat action comes on the all-weather at Kempton and Lingfield.
THURSDAY
Racing Club’s latest recruit Dunstan looks set to make his debut in the RC silks as he is potentially racing at Southwell in the ‘BetMGM: It’s Showtime Restricted Novice Stakes’ (1.35pm). There is further flat action at Newcastle, whilst the jumps action comes from Huntingdon, Wetherby and Gowran Park.
Gowran Park hosts a couple of graded races, including the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle, which could include Thedevilscoachman and Monkfish. There’s also Listed action at Huntingdon, which could involve the likes of Brides Hill, Tweed Skirt and Pink Legend.
FRIDAY
Farceur Du Large looks set to line up for the first time this season in the ‘Grand Military Gold Cup’ at Sandown (3pm). With Jamie Snowden’s excellent record in the race, we’re hopeful of a big run from FDL and it should be a great day out.
Dunstan also holds an entry on Friday at Lingfield, although this appears to be the second choice, with a preference for Southwell on Thursday. There’s also racing over jumps at Sedgefield and further flat action at Wolverhampton in the evening.
SATURDAY
Saturday has one of the best cards of the jumps season at Cheltenham, as it hosts the Festival Trials Day. The card is usually a good one, but with the rescheduled Clarence House Chase too, it looks like a mouthwatering day of racing, which includes a huge SIX Graded races on the card in total.
There’s also a trio of Grade 2 races on Doncaster’s card, with further jumps action at Uttoxeter. The flat action comes later in the afternoon on the all-weather at Newcastle and Kempton.
SUNDAY
The Grade 2 Warfield Mares’ Hurdle is the feature race on Doncaster’s card, with Dan Skelton aiming to land the race for a third successive renewal, having won it in 2021 with Roksana and in 2022 with Molly Olly’s Wishes.
Naas also plays host to an excellent card, with the Grade 3 Novice Chase the pick of the action. The likes of Anibale Fly and Stattler have won that race in recent years, so it’s usually one to keep an eye on! Elsewhere, there is one further jumps meeting at Fontwell.
