With both Wendigo and Dunstan winning already that week, confidence was high for Farceur Du Large to put in a big performance in the Grand Military Gold Cup on Friday. He didn’t disappoint, with a huge effort to win in impressive fashion!
Having not raced in the last 175 days, Farceur Du Large was sent off an 11/1 shot, which was lofty odds considering his trainer’s excellent record in the race. Jockey Major Will Kellard got him into a good rhythm through the early stages, and his jumping was virtually faultless throughout. With four of his rivals either falling or unseating their rider, FDL was in a promising position with a mile to go, and once he hit the lead there was no looking back. He eventually ran out a four-and-a-quarter-length winner, much to the delight of all his connections!

After the race, Jockey Major Will Kellard said:
“I was a bit worried before the race that the 10lb penalty might have been a bit much for him, but he couldn’t have done that any better. He kept finding for me and just took off, and he actually finished with a lot in hand at the end. It’s absolutely fantastic that he’s won this for all connections, I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to ride him.”
Trainer Jamie Snowden was equally jubilant the following day, stating:
“It was a wonderful day yesterday – Will gave him the most polished ride, putting him in the perfect position throughout the race. He relished the ground and the stamina test at Sandown saw him at his best. It’s taken ten years of trying to win this as a trainer but we’ve finally done it! He’s trotted up sound and well this morning, he doesn’t have a mark on him so he’s come out of the race in A1 condition.”
With the Grand Military Gold Cup now won, his sights are firmly on the Royal Artillery Gold Cup on Thursday 15th February.
