With Wendigo winning on Wednesday, Dunstan gave Racing Club owners another reason to cheer less than 24 hours later with a battling victory at Southwell. with a second victory in the RC silks in just 24 hours.
Tried in a visor for the first time, Dunstan was sent off a 17/2 shot, with bookies pricing him as the second highest odds in the race, but he put in a strong performance to win. After taking a keen hold in the early stages, jockey Kieran O’Neill asked Dunstan for his effort three furlongs out and he duly obliged, staying on stoutly to edge out the favourite Pagliacci in a tight finish. Despite a steward’s enquiry for hanging to the right in the final stages, the result stood as it was decided he did not affect any of his rivals in the run-in.

After the race, Jockey Kieran O’Neill said:
“That was a great run from Dunstan, who looked to have plenty in the tank when I asked him for his effort. He did wander around slightly in the final stages and did hang to his right, but he was always doing enough and the step up in trip definitely looked to be the right move.”
Speaking to trainer Barry Brennan the morning after, he was delighted with the performance, stating:
“That was a great win, I’m really pleased with his effort. That was the first time he’s stepped up in trip and as expected, he improved for the extra distance. He’s had a little stretch out this morning and he’s come out of the race nicely. Moving forward, I’ll be looking at options for his next race in the near future and I’ll likely keep him at this trip for the time being.”
