Dunstan Completes An Incredible Four-Timer! – Race Report 13/03/24

Dunstan Newcastle 13:03:24

Dunstan completed an incredible four-timer at Newcastle on Wednesday evening, with a determined effort that saw him maintain his 100% strike-rate in the RC silks.

Considering he had won his last three races, it was slightly surprising to see Dunstan sent off as 4/1 third favourite for the race. Jockey Kieran O’Neill opted for previous winning tactics and held Dunstan up at the rear of the field, sitting patiently just behind the short-priced favourite Dubawi Time. With just over two furlongs left to run, Kieran pushed the button on Dunstan and moved him out to a gap on the far side of the track, racing to the lead with just over a furlong to go. Bradman battled gamely and looked to have headed us on the run-in, but Dunstan found an extra gear and rallied to get his head in front again late on, eventually winning by a head.

Jockey Kieran O’Neill said after the race:

“Both the favourite and second-favourite ran keenly throughout so that suited us perfectly. I just had to keep Dunstan relaxed and he got into a lovely rhythm. He got headed but battled gamely and got back up to lead again. He’s a little star and it’s a pleasure to ride him.”

The morning after the race, trainer Barry Brennan reported:

“It was another fantastic performance from Dunstan and he’s just so impressive with how he battles right to the line – I’m hoping the handicapper doesn’t put him up too much for that win. He’s come out of the race well and eaten up everything last night, despite the long journey home. At the moment, I’m looking at a race in early April at Wolverhampton that will be his next target at this stage. I’m just delighted with how he’s doing, I couldn’t be happier with him.”

All of us at Racing Club are delighted to see Dunstan going from strength to strength, and we’re keeping everything crossed that he can land an incredible fifth win in a row next time out!
