Greycee Bell put in an excellent effort at Windsor on Saturday evening, finishing closer to the winner than she has done in her most recent four races. Despite finishing fourth, she kept up with the market leaders and certainly impressed her owners and trainer Paul Attwater.
Sent off as the 12/1 outsider of the field, Greycee Bell started well and jockey Ethan Jones was happy for her to sit in behind the pace, racing alongside Bonaventure. She soon settled and got into a good rhythm, travelling well throughout the middle of the race. Once asked for her effort two furlongs out, she made headway and looked set to challenge the front running duo. The pace quickened a bit much for her liking and she failed to go with the other trio, eventually finishing just under six lengths behind the winner New Kings Road.
Jockey Ethan Jones said after the race:
“She was a bit slow in the early stages and I had to keep niggling her along to keep her interested. Once she was on the bridle, she travelled really well and as the pace started to quicken I asked her for her effort. She was a bit reluctant to quicken, but I love how she tries her heart out and her breathing sounded very well. I think possibly dropping her back in trip to 7f and putting her in some headgear could help her next time out.”
The morning after the race, trainer Paul Attwater reported:
“She’s trotted up sound and well this morning and ate up all her dinner when she got back last night, so she’s all good. I was pleased with her effort, she certainly didn’t disgrace herself, and hopefully the handicapper will drop her mark slightly. Once we know her revised mark, I’ll sit down with Charlie and the team to discuss a plan for her next race.”
Greycee Bell’s mark has now dropped 3lbs so is now rated 47. This should allow her to be much more competitive, and after her promising effort at Windsor, we look forward to seeing her progress in her next race.
