Wendigo made a superb start to his career in bumpers last season, finishing runner-up on rules debut, before winning his other two bumpers, including his most recent race at Catterick under a penalty. He also holds the accolade for being the first RC Syndicate winner, with his win at Hexham back in November 2023.
Trained by multiple Cheltenham Festival winning trainer Jamie Snowden, Wendigo showed plenty of promise on debut to finish third in his bumper, chasing home a couple of highly regarded runners. He put that experience to good use next time out, running out an authoritative winner to win by over four lengths, in what was a highly impressive performance. Next time out he proved his class, winning in a gutsy performance at Catterick, despite having to carry a penalty. That took his record to two wins and a third from his three bumper runs, in what was a hugely successful debut season under rules.
Trainer Jamie Snowden is confident he will improve for going over hurdles, so we’re excited to see how he fares in his Novice Hurdle campaign in the 24/25 season. Having already won a point-to-point in his career, the evidence is there to support Jamie’s theory, and we’re eagerly awaiting him making his hurdles debut in the Autumn. We’re hopeful that Wendigo will eventually prove to be a Cheltenham Festival horse, and we’re dreaming big with his future.
Wendigo has an impressive pedigree, with his sire Great Pretender producing multiple Grade 1 winners, including the likes of Greaneteen and Benie Des Dieux. He is a gorgeous 16”2 horse, who looks to have the makings of a top-class individual.
We’re confident Wendigo has the potential to be a Graded horse in the future, and he’s sure to give us plenty of fun along the way!
