Greycee Bell made a pleasing turf debut at Carlisle earlier this week, on ground that was softer than she would’ve liked. Sent off as a 22/1 outsider, she was quick out of the stalls and her jockey got her relaxed and into a nice rhythm. Once the pace quickened, she struggled to go with the front runners, but she did get the hang of things in the final stages and made up some ground on the others in the final couple of furlongs. In the final stages, her jockey knew she wasn’t going to get any closer so gave her an easy time of things to eventually finish eighth.
Jockey Alistair Rawlinson said after the race:
“She gave me a good ride and did well I think. She jumped out of the stalls smartly but her draw in 9 was far from ideal, so I just had to slot her in and get her relaxed. She did take a while to get her into the right position, but she travelled okay on the turf. When the pace quickened, it took her a while to hit top gear, but she did make some ground up in the final stages. She did make a bit of a choking noise when I pulled her up after race, so I think maybe she needs a cross nose band for her next race. ”
The morning after the race, trainer Tom Dascombe reported:
“Greycee returned perfectly sound and is absolutely fine. It was a long day for her going all the way up to Carlisle, and she did well on ground softer than what we would’ve liked for her on turf debut. Jockey Alistair Rawlinson feels she could benefit from a cross nose band and tongue tie, so that is something we will look into for her next race.”
It was a pleasing run on turf debut for Greycee, and we’re confident she should improve for the run, especially if she gets to run on better ground. We’re sure to have plenty of fun with her this year!
